I'm Fini Bearman, professor of songwriting & voice at the Guildhall School of Music in London. I’ve been a professional vocalist, jazz musician & songwriter for over 2 decades, and I have released five albums as an artist and countless others as a collaborator. I have sat on the Jury for the prestigious Ivor Novello Awards and most recently I was nominated for a Deutsche Jazz Preis for Best Vocal Album. I know how to dig out and uncover a song, and bring it to life in the most potent and powerful way.
Joining me is the pianist Tom Cawley, a highly renowned and respected pianist in the UK. Tom has recorded all over the world with artists such as Raye, Peter Gabriel, and U2.
What happens on the day?
Each participant will get 1:1 time to work on their song with me & Tom, exploring arrangement details, performance choices & transforming the song in your head into the song in the room.
Over the course of the day you will experience this magic with other participants’ songs, gaining a unique insight into the development cycle of original songs.
All you need is the rough idea for a song & a chart or lead sheet. If the idea of writing your song out on paper fills you with dread, never fear! - I offer each participant the option to have their song written out in advance, for Tom to use on the day.
